Figures
Robert Moses
Robert Moses is basically the villain of urban planning. He built a ton of New York highways and parks. He tore apart neighborhoods, displaced communities, and made cities way more car-dependent. Many of today's urban issues trace back to his top-down, power-heavy approach.
Jane Jacobs
Jane Jacobs is the hero urban planning actually needed. She stood up to people like Robert Moses and fought for cities that work for people, not just cars. Her ideas about walkable neighborhoods, mixed-use spaces, and community-centered design completely changed how we think about urban life. She believed cities should be lived in, not just planned on paper.
